.edu-Domains - Web Statistics for May 2007
Posted: Mon 05/28/2007 by ramiroI am a guy interested in SEO otherwise I wouldn't run SEO Expert Blog and I probably would not read other SEO blogs. But I do so and one of the topics I regularly read about in SEO blogs is how to gain backlinks from .edu-Domains.
Links from .edu-Domains are popular because Google and other search engines trust these educational sites often run by universities. Usually .edu-domains are in existence for quite a long time and have a high PageRank.
Some webmasters working for those universities are really nice people. They let you easily access the universities' Web statistics generated with the venerable Webalizer or other Web statistics tools.
When you look at the referrers sections of the Webalizer reports listed below you'll see that many porn, poker, buy viagra, and similar websites are listed there. Why would those sites link to university sites? Well, probably because the webmasters of porn and poker sites are also very nice people and want to share some link love with the universities that link back to them ;-)
Google is also very nice because it easily lets you find these reports. If you know Perl or similar programming languages you can write a web client that gets your sites in these referrers sections. A question that arises is how long will Goolgle keep on having trust in .edu-Domains.
