SEOmoz's SEO Expert Quiz

Do you think you are an SEO Expert? When you have 30 minutes of spare time, go and take SEOmoz.org's SEO Expert quiz to test your SEO knowledge and get an idea of how realistic your own assessment is.

You will be asked 75 multiple choice questions with 1 correct answer for each of them. I just took the SEO quiz and from now on will call myself The Dark Lord of SEO, though I still haven't watched Episodes I and III. I received a score of 95%, not being correct with the following three questions:

  • Which of these factors is LEAST likely to decrease the value of a link?
  • When is it advisable to leave the meta description off of a page?
  • A domain will not be hurt by having a penalized site or page 301'd to it.

Take the time to read each question carefully, especially if you are not a native speaker of English like me. Sometimes negation in the questions can be confusing although, the experts at SEOmoz.org took the time to highlight negation particles.

Even if you don't consider yourself an SEO expert you will be able to answer many questions correctly by applying your real world knowledge. Bear in mind that search engines can only survive when the deliver useful results to their users.

One quiz item I find particularly useless is PageRank is so named because it was created by Larry Page, not because it ranks pages. If there could be more answers than true or false there would be.

One hint for better integration of the result image: put the URL of the background image in single quotes.

Good quiz!!
The idea behind this test is not bad and the questions are very interesting. Unfortunately it did not work properly for me, as my answers to the first 30 questions were not counted, as if I did not chose an option, which was definitely not true. On the whole there were too many questions so that I did not have the time to check all questions and answers afterwards to really learn something new. Maybe it was also due to a certain degree of frustration after having seen the bad/false result.
