It looks like Google updated the toolbar PageRank again. The Search Status Firefox extensions just informed me about that. Two of my sites, including SEO Expert Blog, each lost one point. Additionally, I tried some free online SEO tools to check what they tell me, but none of them returned any data on PageRank, so I assume that Search Status tells the truth.

The Google toolbar could help here, but I really don't want to install that Google spyware extension. Anyway, as long as the traffic that comes from the big G does not decrease, I don't give a toss about it. Even if it decreases, I won't let Google dictate how I build my websites.

Porn.org using Drupal

Usually it's Dries who announces what big sites use Drupal. In my referrer log I noticed a recent visitor was searching Google for Drupal Porn and came here. Being a curious guy, I checked out the SERPs and learned that Porn.org is using Drupal.

Being even more curious, I looked for more data on Porn.org using some of the free SEO tools I recommend for SEO related tasks. The domain is older than 8 years and Porn.org should attract lots of visitors.

This is a categorized listing of 105 free SEO tools you can use for optimizing websites. For each category I give a short introduction about what the tools do. Most of them have an English interface and are web based.

Some tools need to be installed on a web server or a client connected to the Internet which is indicated in the introductory text or next to the link. Have fun trying out these free SEO tools!

This video introduces the SEO for Firefox extension by Aaron Wall, which displays many useful marketing data while you browse the web, e.g. Google PageRank, Age, Links: (Yahoo! Linkdomain), the number of times a URL has been bookmarked on Del.icio.us, an estimate of the total number of links to a site from blogs using Technorati, Alexa rank, and many more. This extension can be a very valuable SEO tool.

More and more blogs, link directories, and other types websites tend to add the rel="nofollow" attribute to external links to tell search engines not to follow them, meaning that the Google PageRank is not inherited by the externally linked pages.

Clearly this is bad from an SEO perspective for the external pages but may have a positive effect for the internal website links, because they receive more value. This seems somewhat egoistic but hey we all know that money makes the world go round and website owners will argue that they only do it for spam prevention.
